Princess Diana Signing British Sign Language (BSL)

I happen to be a huge fan and am really inspired by the work that the late Princess Diana had accomplished. I have so much respect for her, even though she is not deaf she did work with the deaf. In this video you can see a man's impression as he met her. She learned to sign British Sign Language (BSL)

  1. This is so neat. I love watching people that are willing to learn sign language. In my opinion that is how it always starts. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed this bit of information.

  2. I would never have thought that Princess Diana would have been involved in a group like this. That she took the time to learn sign and become involved in that organization is really inspiring to me.

  3. That was really interesting! It was nice to see that Princess Diana was willing to learn how to sign and communicate with the deaf on top of all her accomplishments.
The other neat thing was seeing the different kind of sign language that the British use! It has some similarities but at the same time is very eye appealing!

  4. I really enjoyed seeing this. It is always inspiring, I think, to see a key figure of a country learning something like sign language. I always thought that she was amazing woman for all her other accomplishments, but this really made me like her more. I also liked seeing this kind of sign language. It was so cool to watch and to see the similarities and differences.

  5. I have always been a big fan of Princess Diana. I think she did great things. I liked watching this video and I wish everyone was as eager to learn some form of sign language. The part I liked the best was how the man said she was calm while learning how to sign. If most people could learn to calm down while signing I think it could be very helpful!

  6. This was neat to watch. I am planning to do my internship with the ITP in England (keep your fingers crossed) so seeing BSL was really fun for me. I am learning the BSL alphabet too, so seeing her fingerspell her name was fun to watch and pick up on. Plus, the fact that Princess Diana was really interested in learning sign and doing it publicly was awesome!

  7. I work with some people who are deaf and blind and some of them use a kind of sign similar to this. I think it's really neat. There's all different kinds, but it seems that people who know ASL pick up on other countries sign language faster than the spoken language.

  8. This was very cool. First off, BSL is soo different. I was trying to follow along how she spelled Diana. This is just more proof that Princess Diana was so gracious and wanted to be able to speak to all British people. I wonder if Kate Middleton knows or will learn BSL.

  10. That was really awesome. I never knew that she had done that, but it's neat that she was willing to learn it and learn it properly, and not just enough to roughly communicate.

  11. I loved this video so much. My mom and I were HUGE fans of Princess Diana's so to watch a video like this about her, showcasing even more of what we already know to be true about her, that she is such a caring individual that would do anything for anyone, even learn a new language so she can communicate with a certain group of people; she was truly amazing.

  12. This was really cool. It had some of the same signs as ASL does but it looked very different.

  14. This is like the other post about learning other languages of sign language which i think would be really cool to do but its confusing to keep the different "accents" of ASL straight in america haha

  15. This was a great video I loved watching it thanks for posting this. I love how Princess Diana took time to learn British Sign. She did a lot of things for a lot of people and I think she did good things for the deaf as well. If everyone took time out of their day to learn how to communicate to others with different languages like Princess Diana this world would be a better place.

  16. My mom was obsessed with Diana back in the day and she always would tell me fun facts about her. It seems as if she really took an interest or made the effort to communicate with people in their usual mode of communication. When speaking to the Welsh people, she practiced Old Welsh to express her excitement in being their new princess. It seems as if there were many other examples like this, including using BSL.
