CSI

I watched the Episode of CSI that had Marlee Matlin in it a few weeks ago. I was actually in Danville at my parent’s house when I watched it and I sat down and watched it with my parents. Not only was it a cool/rare experience for me to actually be able to sit down and watch a TV show with my parents, it was really neat so see their reaction to the deaf community and the TV show. I remember my mom kept asking me if I understood what they were saying even though there were captions; it made me feel so good that my mom got so excited about learning about the deaf community. I loved getting so share that part of my life with my parents through a simple hour long TV show, and it made me really miss watching TV with them almost every night when I was younger.

  1. If you watch NCIS in a couple episodes Abbi and Gibbs sign to eachother because Abbi the scientist has Deaf parents and knows it. Everytime it is in an episode my parents pause it and call me from whatever I am doing. Haha, they have me tell them what they are saying before the show tells us to show off my "skill". I think it is amazing when shows have signing in it. Marlee has a major role also in "The L Word" which is not a very PG show but she signs ALOT in it. I try to watch the show just to watch her and her lover sign. Its really cool

  3. I love watching shows with sign in them. I get excited and try to figure it out (since I don't know that much sign yet). My mom is also becoming interested and actually works with a deaf individual. The deaf lady is fantastic at lip reading, but it's helping my mom to learn certain signs. Though, she still tries to fingerspell everything to me. haha.

  4. I watched that episode, too! I love Marlee Matlin. I feel like that is such a "duh" thing to say. Everyone loves her! But I just can't help myself.
I appreciated what you said about your parents. Mine don't sign either and they freak when they see it on TV (which is rare and yet another reason I appreciated that episode of CSI). I'm wasn't a real big fan of that show actually... but I have a feeling they earned many more viewers after airing that episode ;)

  5. Yeah my family is the same way. I watched this episode a few weeks ago while I was hear, and my family kept texting or calling me to see if I understood what all was being said...lol I really like when I watch something like this and they put sign in it. I always think it's so cool and it makes love whatever show I am watching more..lol Plus it is a cool way for my family to see ASL since like some of the others I am the only one in my family who signs.
