Interesting Quote

I was watching the movie Fame the other week and I wrote this quote down.

There are some things success is not. It’s not fame, it’s not money, or power. Success IS waking up in the morning waking up in the morning SO excited about what you have to do that you literally fly out the door. It’s getting to work with people you love. Success is connecting with the world and making people feel. It’s finding a way to bind together people who have nothing in common but a dream. It’s falling asleep at night knowing you did the best job you could. Success is joy, and freedom, and friendship. And success is love.

For me, I'm going to be a teacher. I'm not sure where that will be or what I will do, but I want to teach. Learning excites me. Yeah, weird, I know. But I love learning and I love the process of learning. I try to even have fun in things I don't typically like. You know the most exciting thing for me? I'm going to succeed at my major and then I'll be a lifelong learner. That excited me to the point of giddiness when I was telling a friend that I'm NEVER going to stop learning.

I will have success in life because I'll be working with people I love and helping others reach their dreams. I know I will have done the best job I could have when the day is done. Will you be successful?

This is how I feel every week as I leave my office and drive to EKU!

  2. This quote sums everything up PERFECTLY!!! I am going to be an Occupational Therapist some day and this quote still relates to me life, so it isn't just the teacher life it relates to. I feel that success is waking up in the morning loving every moment of your job. I feel that I am still going to be able to learn from my patients, while they are also learning from me! I love it!

  3. I like your post a lot. It made me smile. I just love that 99% of the people I meet in my DHH classes are very passionate people; we all have different stories as to how we got to this place, but all interesting and equally inspirational. In some of my other classes, even my "regular ed teacher" classes some people I meet, (and this is going to sound mean, but whatever, right?) and I pray that they decide to do something else for a living because I don't want them anywhere near children, at least not in a school environment, because I feel like they would be doing their future students a HUGE disservice. I know, who am I really to judge them because I am still a student too, and I haven't seen them in action, but I feel like I am a pretty good judge of character, and not to brag, but I feel like I am going to be a good teacher, but not because I have the skill to do so at this very second, but I feel my attitude is different than those people I meet, much like most DHH majors, we are very driven, or so I think so.

I did find it funny that you said "I love to learn, weird I know" or something along those lines; it made me giggle, because I think that all of us have to love learning in some sense or we would have dropped out of DHH majors/similar majors because of all the extra stuff we have to learn, and then constantly have to relearn, rethink and reapply to our students as they change throughout the years.

  4. Such a great quote! I'm an OS major and it seems like some professors make things hard just to make them hard. Its hard to stay focused on the fact that we're working towards a bigger goal and this quote helped bring that idea. :)

  5. I absolutely loved this quote! It's definitely getting printed out and put on my wall. I'm in the interpreting program and it's easy to get discouraged when you see others doing so well and it seems like you're at a plateau but at the end of the day, I know that I will love interpreting and love the idea of a communication barrier being broken. It's a beautiful thing. Thanks for sharing!

  6. I really enjoyed this quote...I think it is the kind of quote that will reawaken those who wake up and, even though they love what they do, they feel a little tarnished or hesitant about their passion. I think that this quote would help to remind these people that they do love what their jobs and that it's worth all the hard work. Not everyday is going to be joy, friendship, and happiness but reading this quote will remind those that the days worth wild rule over the rough days.

  7. I love this quote! I have never heard it before. Too many people, in my opinion, pick careers just because of the notoriety or salary that comes along with it. I think people should make choices that make them happy and when you look in the mirror you should be proud of what you have done with your life.
