This is a video that I had to watch for part of an assignment when I went to UK. It was for my intro to Special Ed class and it is one of the major reasons that I fell in love with ASL and the deaf community. It's less than 4 minutes long and totally worth it!

ReplyDeleteOh my word. I was almost in tears watching this!! Coming straight out of the deaf community, I totally understand what the deaf want and need from the world...this video really sums up what all the deaf need! I am definitely putting this link on my fb for my deaf friends to see..I'll let you know what they say!
The deaf are AMAZING people. When the man said that the deaf can do anything a hearing person can, it is so true. My parents, being deaf, have been discriminated against, especially my father who has been in and out of jobs because of the failure of employers willing to meet his simple needs. Everyone I know are amazed that I know ASL and always have a million and one questions-yet they don't come forth and put the effort out to get into the deaf community!
Thanks for the video, <3
I love this video! It is definitely one of my favorites and I catch myself signing it every time I hear it come on!
ReplyDeleteI love DPAN videos there always so beautiful.
ReplyDeletewhen i first saw this it was in high school, we had to sign songs and this was the example she showed us. it is what made me truly fall in love with ASL. I have posted my videos from high school on youtube.com haha.
ReplyDeleteI had never seen this before! Thanks for sharing it! This is absolutely amazing! I love how it changes to all the different people and the way that the people sign with emotion behind their signs!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI loved that! When I'm bored I like to get on Youtube and watch different song videos that people have interpreted into song/ASL, but I've never seen that one before! It was really good, I liked it!
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad that you all enjoyed it! there are other DPAN videos that you can find on youtube for those of you who are unfamiliar with it. they are all wonderful, but this one happens to be my favorite
ReplyDeleteThanks very much for posting this video.
ReplyDeleteIt's not enough to see injustice and just sit back and say "that's not right." If something must be done, then do it!
There's a famous quote by Ghandi that sums up the attitude perfectly:
"Be the change you want to see in the world."
I have seen this video but the beauty of signing just strikes me to my core and makes me a believe that anything is possible. I am in awe of the passion in which deaf people sign and declare their message and I thoroughly enjoy watching deaf people and signers actively wait for the world to change.
ReplyDeleteI think its not just about waiting for the World to change but changing yourself and just setting the atmosphere for the change that you are expecting. Fantastic video. I too, am waiting for the World to change!
A few years ago for one of my ASL classes we had to attend 2 deaf events. One that I attended was a D-Pan event as KSD. While I was there they showed different music videos and this was one of them. John Mayer is the original singer of this song and I loved it the first time I heard it. After I went to the D-Pan event I loved this song 10 times more. I never thought about it meaning the world changing about the deaf stereotype. I love how in the beginning of the video it shows quotes that degrade deaf people, and then it shows all of the great things they have accomplished throughout the video. It is crazy to see how much is meant behind this song that I never even thought of. I love this video!!
ReplyDeleteThis video never gets old and it reminds me of Gandhi's quote that we should 'be the change you want to see in the world' That quote is a perfect reminder that nothing will ever change if we don't step up and start the process. I loved this video, again. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAmazing. They did such a great job and it was very powerful. Does anyone have any other videos they liked that I should check out?
ReplyDeleteI love watching this!!! I have seen it several times and each time I learn something new and it is so moving, I love it. Thanks for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteWow this was so awesome to see, I have never watched a video like this, but it was truly amazing.
ReplyDeleteThis video was great! I love that it's a deaf performing arts video! I think its true though, I feel like a lot of Deaf individuals are waiting for the world to change, and be more accepting of Deaf individuals :)

My friend Jared sent me this video over the summer and I love D-PAN now. I actually used this in a speech on Deaf culture I gave in my communications class last semester and the class loved it too. A couple of girls even asked for the URL to watch more videos.
